How to Switch From Starlink RV to Residential? What I like most about Starlink is that it came to help underserved internet enthusiasts, especially in rural and remote areas.
Out of these people, campers and nomads benefited most from Starlink since they cannot use wired internet while on the go.
As a camper, I always asked myself, can I change my RV Starlink to residential once I get a house?
Having done thorough research, I developed a guide on switching from Starlink RV to residential in simple steps.
Can I Switch My Starlink RV to Residential?
Yes, you can easily switch from Starlink RV to the residential plan.
The RV plan, known as Starlink roam, is customized for nomads and RVers who want the internet while traveling.
It features several benefits, like using it in any address and the ability to pause and restart it at will.
Moreover, you don’t go on the waitlist when ordering it, which explains why many people like it.
However, it becomes deprioritized during peak hours so that you can experience low speed.
Additionally, its speed range is lower than that of residential, which gives you more reasons to switch.
Fortunately, Starlink allows the switch between Starlink roam and residential and vice versa.
The arrangement can benefit people who like camping only a few times a year and don’t want to pause Starlink.
Interestingly, you do not even need to uninstall it from the RV. You can just park your rig near your house and change the plan from the app.

Are the Hardware Devices of Starlink RV and Residential the same?
Yes, the hardware of both Starlink RV and Residential are similar. As you may already know, both services come with a Satellite dish, router, stand, ethernet, and power cable.
However, for the RV Starlink, you also get a Starlink carrying bag for packing your setup when in transit.
Additionally, you can order the flat high-performance dish, which offers consistent connection while in motion.
Note that you do not need to change whichever dish you have when switching to residential.
You need to know that the monthly subscription varies while both hardware prices are the same.
For the residential service, the monthly price is $120, while that of the RV is $150.
In addition, residential has a higher speed of 25 – 220 Mbps, while RV has low speeds of 5 – 50 Mbps.
How to Switch from Starlink RV to Residential
Let’s discuss how you can change from Starlink RV to residential in a few easy-to-follow steps.
But note that while you can change now, the effects will occur on your next billing cycle. Always do this when switching to a cheaper plan than your current one.
Sign/ log into your Starlink account.
I recommend using your laptop instead of your phone for a better view. Once you are set, visit the Starlink website, Starlink.com.
Now click the menu represented by the three lines at the top right. Go on to select sign in on this window and proceed to log in using your credentials.
You can now go to the My Account section to access your account dashboard.
When there, locate and click the Manage link to help you tweak your account settings, including service type and address.
Change Your Plan
While on the Manage account page, look on the left side to find a Standard Dish menu.
This independent menu allows you to customize your Roam Starlink as you wish.
It has options to pause, change, or cancel the service. Now that we only want to change click the Change Service Plan button.
On the resulting window, scroll to find different available plan options. Locate the Residential plan and click ‘Change to’ once you are done reviewing the pricing, and you are done.
When you return to your account window, you will get the notification the service start on the next billing cycle.
Change Your Service Address
While the switching part is already done, I recommend changing your service address for optimal performance.
Remember, the roaming plan has no service address, hence the deprioritization. You should know that Starlink uses your address to know the kind of speed to afford you and the availability of service.
Additionally, you must know that Starlink is not in full capacity at your new address. You can change your address from the Starlink app or the website.
For those using the website, go to the location on the account dashboard. On the other hand, if you are on the app, go to the menu, my account, then click address.

Relocate Your Starlink
Although this method is optional, I think ensuring a firm and secure mount is necessary.
It also brings convenience, especially when powering your router from the house and routing the cable.
Additionally, the step ensures you centralize your router to cover a range of 2000 sq feet in all directions.
You need the necessary tools and Starlink mounting accessories to relocate your dish, such as a roof mount.
Then, use the app to find an optimum place with no obstruction. From there, mount the dish, connect it to the router, and power your setup.
Finally, wait for the next bailing cycles for Starlink to activate your new subscription plan.

Conclusion
Now, you have all the steps to switch your Starlink internet plan from Starlink RV to residential.
The bad news is that you may encounter an error message if trying to change to an address on the waitlist.
Therefore, check the Starlink availability map on their website before deciding to switch.
