How to Boost Starlink WiFi – Useful Tips and Tricks

Are you struggling with a weak WiFi signal and want to know how to boost the Starlink WiFi signal in your house?

Luckily, I researched through the internet and found some WiFi-boosting tips that I will share with you.

But before I give you these tips in the article below, let’s first know the range of the Starlink router.

How Far Does Starlink WiFi Router Reach?

The advertised range of the Starlink WiFi router is 2000 sq ft. However, this range depends on the obstructions such as walls and microwave interference.

Again, if the router is near a device with microwave signals, the internet reception will still be affected.

If these are your cases, let me show you how to boost the signal in the next subheading.

How to Boost Starlink Signal

The basic step for maximum internet signal from your router involves being near your router, especially during streaming.

Also, ensure no obstacles, such as thick walls that separate you and your router. However, if the above basic step seems impossible in your case, try the following tips:

Move the Router to a Higher Location.

Placing your router in an elevated position ensures not only maximum signal distribution but also avoids obstacles.

Such obstacles can be other appliances and furniture. While here, ensure a centralized place so that all your devices can be within its range.

Additionally, ensure it is not behind any obstruction or inside a cupboard or a box.

Lastly, place it in a location without electromagnetic interference, such as live electric wires, microwave ovens, and baby monitors.

Use Starlink Ethernet Adapter

As you may already know, the Starlink router does not have an ethernet port. However, you can visit the Starlink store and purchase an ethernet adapter with an ethernet port.

You then connect this device to the router and use the device’s ports for wired connection via ethernet cables.

Once you have a wired connection in your home, you can buy a wireless access point device.

Here, you connect the access point to your wired network, which helps access the Starlink internet wirelessly on your devices.

Stalink Mesh Kit

Another amazing device that the Starlink internet shop sells to boost your WiFi signal is the Starlink Mesh kit.

They eliminate internet blindspots in your home. Also, note that, unlike the wired access points, these nodes connect wireless, eliminating the need for ethernet cables.

To connect the nodes, you just need to place them in the room with the low WiFi signal. After powering them, your app will detect them, prompting you to pair them.

WiFi Extenders

WiFi extenders are also excellent devices for boosting your Starlink WiFi signal.

Unlike the mesh nodes, extenders come with various WiFi ranges, enhancing your router range.

The extender acts as a new central point; its indicated range is the new WiFi range from its position.

You can get an already configured WiFi extender from the Starlink shop and connect it directly to your network.

Alternatively, you can buy inexpensive third-party extenders but must configure them first.

Here are steps to configure third-party WiFi extenders:

  • First, connect the WiFi extender to the power source, and it starts blinking in search of your router.
  • Once it detects the router, the blinking ceases, and you can configure it.
  • Now, utilize your PC to identify the IP address of your router and copy it. Some may have their IP already printed on the back.
  • Then paste or type the address on your browser and run it to reveal the admin page.
  • Use the  admin page above to set up an account to access the WiFi extender
  • Now access the account and check the searched routers to see if your Starlink router appears
  • Click it and proceed to connect and then check if the extender’s light indicates a stable connection, and that’s it.

Use Signal Boosters

As the name suggests, a signal booster boosts your router’s WiFi signals, enhancing the reception.

All you need to do is buy the best signal booster, depending on your preference and budget.

Then power the device by connecting it to an outlet and link it to your router via ethernet cable.

Remember, the Starlink router lacks an ethernet cable so you will need an ethernet adapter.

Finally, pair the booster with your router and use your network credentials to connect them.

Use Third-party Routers

The most modern routers have a bigger range than the Starlink device. Additionally, the third-party router gives you more control and security in your network.

To connect the 3rd party router to your Starlink, you need an ethernet adapter, and then follow the steps below:

  • Connect the ethernet adapter to access the ports like we said earlier
  • Now power your newly bought router and configure it using the manufacturer’s process
  • Once done, connect your PC or phone to the new WiFi and make sure it’s working
  • You will also notice the Starlink WiFi if you configured it after the ethernet adapter connection.
  • From there, you will need to merge the two WiFi’s by activating the bypass mode.
  • Visit your Starlink app settings and scroll to find the bypass mode.
  • Finally, slide the toggle bar to enable it and proceed to confirm the process and that’s it.

Disadvantages of using Starlink Mesh Nodes?

The $145 price is the main drawback because it’s expensive compared to the third-party nodes.

These nodes can only support WiFi 5 and are unavailable for the first WiFi6 configurations.

Another drawback is that the device has only two channels, 2.4GHz and 5GHz, while modem ones have triple-band capabilities.

I also noted that the gadget lacks usage statistics and bandwidth prioritization in modern nodes.

WiFi Extender and WiFi Booster Differences

According to this research, the main difference between an extender and a booster is how they function to enhance signal.

For starters, wifi extenders refer to devices that get signals from your router and amplify them.

It means this device strengthens them and then redistributes them for enhanced distant coverage.

In contrast, a WiFi booster is a device that broadcasts the WiFi signals after getting them from the router or an access point.

It, therefore, means this gadget creates a secondary. Typically, its work involves creating a secondary signal to help extend the coverage.

Some Best WiFi Boosters for Your Satellite Internet

Frankly, many WiFi boosters to enhance your satellite internet exist out there.

You just need to choose the one you prefer within your budget and with your required features.

However, I believe two of the best boosters are TP-Link RE-450 and NetGear EX270.
